Richard “Dick” E. Hader, 84, passed away Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, in Kalispell.

He was born on Jan. 8, 1934, in Chester, Montana, to S.E “Bud” and Florence Hader. Dick’s family later moved to Newport, Washington, and eventually settled in Kalispell where he graduated from Flathead High School in 1953.

Dick served his country honorably in the Army from 1954 to 1956 at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. A previous marriage in 1959 to Betty Hull relocated him from Kalispell to Vancouver, Washington, where he raised his three children. Dick was blessed to return back to his beloved Flathead Valley after nearly 30 years. He was a master union carpenter in Washington, Oregon and Montana until his retirement following the completion of the Kalispell Center Mall.

Dick was first and foremost an American patriot and passionate about maintaining the ideals of our nation’s forefathers. He was also an avid outdoorsman, horseman and cattleman and couldn’t spend enough time outside in his various pursuits in the woods or on his ranch. He loved tinkering on home projects, and tending to his large garden. His spirit will shine down upon Big Sky country, from the beautiful Sweet Grass Hills to the wonders of Glacier National Park and all the spectacular mountain scenery surrounding him he absolutely cherished. He also equally enjoyed spending nearly 30 years as a member of the Kalispell Eagles Club with his tight knit community of friends, especially on the dance floor!

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Mickey Hader, sisters Betty Lou Kenaston and Vickie Hader, and grandson Ryan Mayer.

Dick is survived by his sister, Dorothy Berger, of Kalispell; son, Wade Hader, of Richland, Washington; son, Curt Hader, of Washougal, Washington; and daughter, Wendy Mayer, of Vancouver. He was a wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather to nine and six children, respectively. He is also survived by loving nieces and nephews. Finally, he is survived by his true love, Judy Perry, who kept him smiling, laughing and dancing until his passing.

A celebration of Dick’s wonderful life will be held at the Kalispell Eagles Club at noon on Saturday, Oct. 20. A luncheon will follow the celebration.
