PASCO, Wash. – The Flathead wrestling team took second in the Best of the West individual tournament, and Tanner Russell racked up four pins to take first place at 170 pounds.

“This was a great way to finish off 2018,” Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said.

Brendan Barnes (126), Fin Nadeau (132) and Ridge Troupe (152) all came away with second-place finishes, and Bo Meyer earned a pin in his final match to take third at 145.

Thompson said Meyer had “an exceptional weekend” and is “really developing from the beginning of the season.”

Four freshmen placed for the Braves. In addition to Nadeau’s performance, Cole Eastwood (103), Asher Kemppainen (120) and Michael Downing won their fifth-place matches.

“It says a lot about the talent in that class for the Braves,” Thompson said.

As a team, Flathead earned 181.5 points, good for second place behind Oregon’s second-ranked team, Newberg, which had 255 points.

Next up for the Braves is a Jan. 3 crosstown dual at Glacier.
