Baseball Kobelt, Hader hurl Twins by Mavs, 8-1, 12-2 in Legion play

WHITEFISH — Forrest Kobelt pitched six strong innings and went 2 for 4 at the plate to drive in two runs as the Glacier Twins topped the Missoula Mavs 8-1 in the first game of a Class A American Legion baseball Western Conference doubleheader on Tuesday evening at Memorial Field.

In the second game, a nine-run fifth inning pushed the Twins to a 12-2 victory over Missoula in a game shortened by the 10-run rule.

Kobelt tossed a 2-hitter, struck out eight batters and walked two.

Jack Schwaiger pitched the final inning of the opener.

Schwaiger, the leadoff hitter, went 2 for 4 along with Jay Tyree and Stevyn Andrachick.

Tyree had two RBIs.

Coby Clark-Dickinson and Tyree doubled for the Twins.

Zach Veneman, 2 for 3, had a RBI along with Austyn Andrachick.

Nathan Hader went the distance on the mound for the Twins in the second test. He checked Missoula on three hits, struck out five and walked two batters.

Offensively, Austyn Andrachick, 3 for 3, Veneman, 2 for 3, and Clark-Dickinson, 2 for 3, were the top hitters.

Clark-Dickinson doubled, tripled and drove in three runs.

Chad Queen had Glacier’s other extra base hit, a double.

Kobelt drove in two runs, along with Queen.

Glacier has a single Western Conference game with the Kalispell Lakers A today at Griffin Field at 6 p.m. On Friday, Glacier has a conference doubleheader at the Mission Valley Mariners.
