Flathead scored twice in the first half but the Braves couldn’t keep the momentum going in a 6-2 Western AA soccer loss to Missoula Hellgate on Saturday.

“We played a great first half,” Braves coach Zach Brenneman said. “The two goals we gave up early in second half kind of took the wind out of our sails little bit and we weren’t able to recover from that but we were able to compete with a really good team and the players should grow and come back stronger from a game like this.”

Hellgate scored four goals in the second half on its way to the victory.

AJ Apple scored both Flathead goals, with Jalen Hawes assisting on both.

The Braves are 2-1 on the season.

Skyleigh Thompson scored late in the second half for the Flathead Bravettes but it wasn’t enough to overtake Hellgate.

The Bravettes have had some trouble producing offense of late but coach Bledy Doda is remaining optimistic.

“I think my team is playing great soccer,” Doda said. “We need to work a little more on finishing. We need goals to win. Sometimes soccer is like that. We just have to keep looking forward and be patient and if we are patient the goals will come. I’m very proud of my team, the way they are playing.”

Flathead’s season record falls to 1-2.
