Josh Gold of Whitefish went 5-under-par during a six-hole stretch on the final nine Monday to pull away from the field and capture his first men's championship by eight shots at the 69th International Labor Day Golf Tournament at Buffalo Hill Golf Club.

In women's play, Calgary's Gaylene Donald survived a tight battle with Kalispell's Debbie Boreson to win her 13th Labor Day crown by one stroke.

Gold, last year's runner-up, began the final round with a three-stroke edge on Shawn Tucker of Whitefish. Gold fired a 1-under-par 69 on the Cameron Nine to start the tournament on Saturday and followed that with a 1-under-par 71 on Sunday on the Championship 18.

Gold stumbled out of the gate with four bogeys on the front nine of the Championship 18 on Monday, but birdies on No. 10 and 12 sandwiched around an eagle on the par five No. 11, plus a birdie on No. 15 for a 31 on the back nine for a 2-under-par 70 and a 210 total for the tournament.

Tucker shot a 77 Monday to fall into a two-way tie for third at 220 with Flathead High School sophomore Larry Iverson III of Kalispell. Iverson, the medalist in the first two high school golf tournaments of the season, fired a 1-under-71 on the final day to go with earlier rounds of 75 and 74.

Former champion Dave Morberg of Whitefish opened with a 78 on the Cameron Nine, but followed with rounds of 69 and 71 to claim second at 218.

Donald shot consistent rounds of 82, 79 and 80 for a 241 total. She came into the final round with a two-stroke lead, but that advantage was gone by the 12th hole.

Aftern Donald and Boreson both parred the 13th, a double bogey at No. 14 put Boreson one-shot behind. That was the difference as Donald and Boreson both parred out.

Pat Emrich of Washougal, Wash., finished third, six shots out.

Howard Broun of Calgary and Jerie Clark of Somers won the mixed derby on Sunday. Dan Kiley of Seattle and Kathy Keyser of Kalispell lost in a chip-off to finish second and Tucker and Katelyn Inlow of Calgary finished third.
