Col. Falls Council continues gun-law discussion

The Columbia Falls City Council will take more public comment tonight on a change in city law that would allow firing weapons in the city for special events.
Two weeks ago the council approved the first reading of a permitting process that would amend the city's law banning the use of weapons, but the council agreed to get more public comments before voting on a second and final reading of the amendment.
The council decided to consider the amendment last month when it learned a group is interested in holding a rendezvous event in Columbia Falls.
Those kinds of events typically include firing weapons.
Residents have concerns about safety and people abusing the new law to shoot weapons anytime they want.
In other business, the council will hold discussion about a memorandum of understanding regarding the historic Red Bridge redevelopment project.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Columbia Falls City Hall.
