Beverly Ann (Van Rinsum) Managhan, 77
Beverly Ann (Van Rinsum) Managhan, 77, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at the Brendan House in Kalispell, surrounded by loving family.
Beverly was born April 18, 1936, in Somers to Gerrit and Violet Van Rinsum, and raised on the family farm. She graduated from Flathead County High School in 1954.
Her mother taught her to play the piano, and Beverly became a dedicated, lifelong musician playing both piano and saxophone, and singing.
Beverly met her husband-to-be, Raymond, at the Bald Rock Community Center in April of 1953, at a monthly dance.
She married Ray Managhan Jr. in Oct. 1954, having three children. They lived in Whitefish until 2006, then Kalispell. Bev was a volunteer in organizations for her entire life, with the 4-H and the Women of the Moose. She formed the Calamity Singers, which to this day perform tirelessly at Flathead Valley Nursing and Hospital Facilities. You can hear her music forever at www.beverlymanaghan.com.
Beverly’s favorite piece of advice, both spoken and in song, was “One Day at a Time”.
Beverly was honored by the Whitefish Soroptimists in 2006, when they chose her as the First Lady of Whitefish, having fun riding in the Winter Carnival parade that year.
Bev loved to camp, do craft work, travel with her husband Ray and spoil her family with love. To the end, you thought a 30-year-old was on the phone when talking to Beverly. She had unbridled energy, which she dedicated to those who needed it the most.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Violet (Scovill); father, Gerrit Van Rinsum; brother, Edwin Unwin; and grandson, Christopher Managhan.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Ray Managhan Jr.; brother, Francis Van Rinsum of Somers; sons, Mike of Arizona and Doug of Nevada; daughter, Cindy Thompson of Arizona; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 at the Whitefish Methodist Church.
