Alma Ione Johnson, 90

Alma Ione Johnson, age 90, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2013, at the Springs of Whitefish with her family in attendance.

Alma was born on Sept. 4, 1922, in Montmorency County, Mich., the eighth of nine children to George and Effie Bauer. Following high school, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a WAVE and worked in naval intelligence in Washington, D.C. It was there that she met and married Lt (JG) Arnold Johnson. They were married at Bethesda Naval Hospital on Dec. 7, 1944. Following their discharge, they moved to Detroit, Mich., where Alma gave birth to three children. In 1962, the family relocated to Colorado Springs where she resided until her move to Montana following Arnold’s death in 1990.

She is survived by her children, George and Jan Johnson of Colorado, Jon and Diane Johnson of Whitefish, Mary Johnson and Eric Vantenhove of Anaconda, grandchildren Kateri, Barrett, Ethan and Adam, and great-grandchildren Jaina and Mira.

Services will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 401 7th Street West in Columbia Falls, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
