High School Rodeo Finals: Meged, Gustafson take titles on Day 1
Miles City sophomore Haven Meged edged two other riders by a half point to win the boys’ cow cutting state championship on Tuesday afternoon at the Montana High School Rodeo Association state finals at Majestic Valley Arena.
Meged’s first round score of 69 was enough to keep him ahead of Hamilton sophomore Kris Anderson with 137 points in the final tally. Anderson scored 68.5 and each rider scored a 68 in the second go. East Glacier senior Marshal Ray stormed back from a ride of 65.5 in the first go to score an event high 71 in the second go, tying for second place with 136.5 points.
Browning sophomore Greta Gustafson recorded top marks in each of the two girls rounds to win by three points. Gustafson scored 71,5 in the first go and 71 in the second to total 143 points. Forsyth senior Brianna Ash was second with 140 and Wise River senior Sidney Kirkpatrick was third with 138.
The state finals continue today with timed events running from 9-11 a.m. in the arena.
