That darn GOP!
Local state Sen. Bruce Tutvedt has two tax bills on the House floor. Tutvedt is one of the “Responsible” Republicans, but when it comes to taxes the Republicans just cant change their spots.
His income tax bill is to reduce taxes and simplify the tax code. All of us mentally challenged Montanans can’t read the simple instructions at the bottom of the state tax form and apply it to the taxable income. SB171 should also be called the tax cut for the rich bill. By cutting the top rate by 8/10 of a percent it will give the millionaires an $8,000 tax cut on a million dollars. By eliminating the bottom 1, 2 and 3 percent brackets it will be a tax increase on the lowest state incomes.
So, lets see, if the 1 percenters get an $8,000 tax cut, that could be say $72 million in tax relief for the poor struggling millionaires. On the other hand the greedy overpaid workers in the state would see tax hikes from a few dollars to maybe as much as $1,000, and you keep on voting for Republicans.
