Whitefish should re-examine priorities

| April 25, 2015 9:00 PM

I live off State Park Road and have had to deal with three summers of road construction. If I had created a mess like this in front of my home, affecting neighbors and safety in the same manner, I would have been ticketed and ordered to clean it up immediately!

Yes the “new” highway and bridge are nice — very very very expensive but nice! As I drive State Park Road numerous times daily I dodge potholes, obstructed views, signs hidden by trees/shrubbery on the city boulevards, etc. I ask how the city can keep handing out building permits and not update services to those new homes? Water, sewer, curbs, gutters, sidewalks etc. are all unfinished!

Last winter the streets were not plowed properly as the snow was not pushed off the full width of the street because “our equipment could not handle the heavy snow”! Really? I offered to show them how North Dakota farm boys handle heavy equipment because apparently California personnel have no clue, but they did send over more personnel and equipment to clear the north side of the street. What about the 3 feet on the south side that was left? These things are definitely safety hazards that need to be corrected before $12 million is spent on a new city hall!

Would you like to go buy a fancy new home, couple new cars, ATVs, boat, etc., and then ask your boss for a raise due to increased living expenses? Isn’t that what Whitefish is asking of you for their projects? How about pay off all debt and then manage monies accordingly? No wait, that does not make good financial sense. What was I thinking? Anyway food for thought. —Ron Albrecht, Whitefish
