Class B volleyball: Local teams swept in first round of Divisional playoffs

LIBBY — All three Northwestern teams were swept in the first round at the Western B divisional volleyball tournament on Thursday.

Host team and District 7B runner up Libby made things close against Anaconda in the late match of the first round, but fell in three sets 25-18, 25-20, 25-12.

Mehki Sykes had seven kills and four aces and Bailie Rosling eight digs for the Loggers.

Eureka, the third seed from 7B, fell in three sets to Missoula Loyola 25-19, 25-11, 25-18.

Amanda Peterson had 14 kills and Rylee Morgan had 14 digs and two aces to lead the Lions. Sierra Tiede led Loyola with 12 kills, three blocks and eight digs.

Bigfork got better in each set against Florence but fell 25-10, 25-16, 25-20.

Jamie Berg had six kills and a block and Kalia Wickland had 15 assists and eight digs to lead the Valkyries. Sabrina Hopcroft led Florence with nine kills and 21 digs.

Bigfork will take on Libby in a loser-out match at noon today. Eureka will play a loser-out match against Ronan earlier in the day at 10 a.m. The Maidens also lost in straight sets, falling to 7B champion Thompson Falls 25-15, 25-17, 25-18.

Florence and Loyola each advanced to the undefeated semifinals later in the night, each guaranteeing themselves a spot at the state tourney.

The top three teams from the Western B tournament will advance to the state tournament next weekend in Bozeman.
