EUREKA — Just last week, Tyler Murphy sat behind home plate and caught every pitch of the Glacier Twins’ first no-hitter of the season.

Six days later, Murphy got to experience another one, and this time it was from on top of the mound.

Murphy struck out 11, allowed only two walks and got a boatload of run support in firing a no-hitter of his own in a 17-0 win against the Kootenai Valley Rangers Tuesday night in the first game of a doubleheader sweep for the Twins’ A squad. The Twins won the nightcap 10-0.

The Rangers’ first batter, Dawson Henrie, drew a walk before Murphy retired the next 11 men he faced. All but four of the 15 outs Murphy recorded came via strikeout. He needed only 81 pitches to complete the no-hitter.

Glacier scored four times in the first inning and never looked back offensively, collecting 11 hits and taking advantage of eight errors. Derek Kastella went 3 for 4 and drove in three runs in the win.

Murphy was back behind the plate in the second half of the twinbill and helped guide Ryan Veneman to a complete game two-hitter. Veneman struck out six in the win.

Murphy was the Twins’ offensive star in the nightcap, going 2 for 2 with a double, a triple, a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs. James Sampson-Keck, Vinny Smith, Max Smyley, A.J. Wetsch and Greyson Bistodeau all added two hits apiece.

Lakers AA swept in Helena

HELENA — The Kalispell Lakers AA outhit Helena in both halves of a doubleheader but the Senators tallied more where it counts most, winning 4-2 and 5-3 to sweep both games at Kindrick Legion Field.

The Lakers (26-9, 3-3 Western AA) collected eight hits in the opener but watched the Senators score twice in the first, twice more in the third and maintain control. Dawson Smith went the distance on the hill and allowed six hits but was saddled with the loss.

In the second game, the Lakers rallied with a three-run third inning to tie the score but Helena (17-15, 3-4) pushed a couple runs across in the fifth to pick up the win. Kalispell had 10 hits in the nightcap but made four errors in the field.

Jake Halland had three hits including a double on the night and Leif Ericksen was 3 for 8 with a double and two RBIs. Patrick O’Connell went a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate in game two.
