CLINTON, Iowa — Kalispell’s Joe Pistorese joined the active roster on the Clinton LumberKings, the Class A Midwest League affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.

Pistorese, a relief pitcher in the Mariners system, had been on the 7-day disabled list after straining his oblique while preparing for the season. The 23-year-old sat out the first 50 games of the season serving a suspension for a positive drug test.

Pistorese, a 2011 Flathead High School graduate, was 6-0 with a 1.28 ERA for the Class A Everett AquaSox last season.

Reilly, Eskimos drop home opener

EDMONTON, Alberta — Mike Reilly and the defending Grey Cup champion Edmonton Eskimos lost their first game of the season, falling 45-37 in overtime at home in a rematch of last season’s championship game.

Reilly, a 2003 Flathead High School graduate, drove the Eskimos to the 32-yard line with a minute to play in regulation, setting up a field goal that gave Edmonton a 37-34 lead.

However, Ottawa answered quickly, completing four passes in 28 seconds to drive to the 53-yard line with 20 seconds to play. Following a timeout with one second left, RedBlacks kicker Christopher Milo nailed a 55-yard field goal to send the game to overtime.

The RedBlacks scored a touchdown and a conversion in the extra session, and Reilly’s final two attempts to tie the game went awry.

Reilly was 28 for 40 with 383 yards passing and a touchdown in the contest, also rushing for 16 yards.

Former University of Montana running back Trevon Van had 12 rushes for 47 yards and four catches for 44 yards for Ottawa, including a 19-yard grab in overtime to set up the winning score.
