Unbeaten Butte blows by Glacier in AA playoff, 51-14

BUTTE — Football season drew to a close for the Glacier Wolfpack on Friday with a 51-14 loss to the unbeaten Butte Bulldogs in a Class AA second round playoff game at Naranche Stadium.

Butte is 10-0 and advances to the semifinal. The playoff game was Butte’s first at home in seven years.

Glacier ends the season 5-6. Last week Glacier beat Great Falls in a first round game.

Jonah Pate caught an 8-yd pass from JT Allen to put Glacier on top 7-0 early in the first quarter.

After that, it was all Butte, who led 20-7 at the half.

Allen threw a 27 yard pass to Ethan Diedl for a score in the third.

Butte surged in the latter half of the game, scoring 31 points.

Tommy Mellott was unstoppable for the Bulldogs, rushing for three touchdowns and throwing for one. Mellott connected with Ryan Neil for a 12-yd TD during Butte’s 24-0 scoring streak in the fourth.

The Bulldogs play Billings West in a semifinal game next Friday.
