Breakers down Vals for Western B crown, Vikings lose to T-Falls
HAMILTON – Missoula’s Loyola Sacred Heart returned to its dominant form Saturday, building a 24-8 halftime lead on Bigfork on the way to 50-29 win over the Valkyries in the Western B girls basketball divisional championship.
Missoula Loyola (23-0) rode 15 points from Natalie Clevenger to the win. Lani Walker added 10 for the Breakers.
Thompson Falls ended up third in the tournament.

The Vals got a game-high 16 points from Ansleigh Edgerton. She scored 12 points in the third quarter. Next was Emma Berreth with five points.
Bigfork (14-9) had already earned a trip to the State B tournament in Butte March 12-14 when Thompson Falls, getting 19 points from Ellie Baxter and 17 from Megan Baxter, beat Anaconda 66-49 in the consolation game.
The Bluehawks, who beat Eureka 54-43 in a loser-out game early Saturday, needed Bigfork to win to get a challenge game. They ended up 15-9, the same record as Anaconda.

Katie Schmidt poured in 17 points for Eureka but it wasn’t enough for the Lions (15-8) to stave off elimination.
Jody Detlaff scored 17 points and Ellie Baxter added 10 for the Bluehawks.

On its way to the consolation game the Bluehawks ousted Bigfork behind 11 points from Sidney Akinde. Cody Burk added six points, all in the fourth quarter, for Thompson Falls.
Isaac Bjorge’s 10 points led Bigfork, which ended up 11-12.
In the championship game Arlee (10-14) beat Deer Lodge (17-6) 55-48, giving the Warriors a B divisional title in their first year back up from Class C. Arlee went 0-8 in District 6-B play during the regular season.
Akinde scored another 18 points in the consolation game but Thompson Falls (10-14) lost to Missoula Loyola 54-44.
Loyola ended up 14-10 – the Rams lost to Deer Lodge in Friday’s semifinals and can not challenge for a berth into the State B tournament.
