Glacier girls, boys soccer finish regular season by blanking Butte

BUTTE — The Glacier Wolfpack girls soccer team finished up the regular season in style, breezing past the Butte Bulldogs 6-0 on Friday.

Glacier (10-4) is guaranteed at least the second seed in Western AA heading into the playoffs, which begin Tuesday.

Madison Becker had a hand in four of Glacier’s goals and added a score of her own in the second half. Reese Leichtfuss and Taylor Brisendine each tallied two goals.

“It’s a great rebound from yesterday,” Glacier coach Brenden Byrd said. “Butte played a tough defensive game against us. It was a must win game for us.”

BUTTE — Goalkeeper Dylan Holly got his first career shutout for the Glacier Wolfpack in a 7-0 Western AA win over the Butte Bulldogs.

Holly made three saves.

Eli Mildren scored two goals and Zane Elliott and Braden Nitschelm each had a goal and an assist for Glacier (9-3-2).

“It’s never easy back to back road trips and coming off a very intense physical match against the best team in the state,” Wolfpack coach Ryan Billiett said. “Very proud of the boys to put in a full 80 minutes.”

Whitefish JV 9, Stillwater 1

The Whitefish JV girls soccer team rolled to a 9-1 non-conference win over the Stillwater Christian Cougars on Friday.

Mabelle Hartman scored Stillwater’s only goal.

The Cougars are 1-4-2, and Friday’s game was their last home game of the season.

“Stillwater fought to stay in the game,” Stillwater coach Kristie Birkenstock said. “Marae Tintzman and Sophia Burroughs stayed strong and fought hard on defense, coming up big for the Lady Cougars many times.”
