Flathead’s softball season got off to a slow start Friday, with losses of 18-1 to Great Falls High and 10-0 to Great Falls CMR. Both games ended after five innings under the mercy rule.
Great Falls’ Tehneson Ehnes threw a two-hitter in the first game, striking out one, and Stephanie Jablonski hit two homers and drove in six runs for the Bison.
Ilyssa Centner, who started on the mound for Flathead, drove in the Bravettes’ only run with a sacrifice fly.
“They just played good, solid defense and made every play,” Flathead coach Jack Foster said of the Bison. “We had a good start and were doing OK until the fourth and fifth. Especially the fifth, the door fell out.”
In the second game Brie Ginnaty threw a 5-hit shutout, fanning seven, and CMR put up nine runs in the first inning.
The Braveets got doubles from Centner, Brianna Morales and Alyssa Poe-Hatten but couldn’t get a run across.
“We had our chances and never could put many things together,” Foster said. “We’ve got some things to build on. Our second game, Karissa Comer battled back and only gave up one run the next four innings.”
Flathead’s next action is Tuesday at Kidsport against Missoula Big Sky (3 p.m.) and Sentinel (5 p.m.).
