Joey Paolini scored two goals and assisted on another, and Glacier exploded for five goals in 13 minutes late in the second half to down Helena 6-0 in boys’ soccer Saturday.

Liam Ells, Sullivan Coggins, Brighton Kelsey and Mason Fauth all tallied for the Wolfpack (2-0) which outshot Helena 15-2 but didn’t break the game open until Paolini’s first goal in the 66th minute.

“A lot of credit to Helena High,” Glacier coach Ryan Billiet said. “They were very organized defensively. It was different from yesterday’s match with Capital, and it really challenged our guys to get creative to get scoring chances.

“We had a lot of great composure and a lot of intensity off the bench, and things finally opened up for us. Once we got that second goal the game really opened up.”

John Pyron was in goal for the shutout. Jake Ritzdorf had two assists. The game had 40 fouls, 21 by Helena (1-1).

“Defensively we didn’t allow many opportunities,” Billiet said. “It’s not just our backline, it’s all over the field. Guys are staying compact and keeping the ball at the right times.”
