North Valley Hospital Chief of Staff, Dr. Jonathan “Jon” Amick, has accepted a new role as chief medical officer, effective Feb. 1.

Amick is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and has served as the hospital’s chief of staff since 2019 and as director of anesthesiology and perioperative services since 2013.

During his tenure at North Valley, Amick has been recognized by his staff for his embodiment of the Planetree philosophy, a news release states. He received the “Spirit of Planetree” award in 2015 and “Provider Champion” award in 2020.

“I am truly honored and blessed for the opportunity to be the next chief medical officer at North Valley Hospital,” Amick said in a prepared statement. “I look forward to working with staff throughout the hospital and continue to provide quality care for our patients while looking for ways to enhance their care.”

Amick has played a key role on surgery teams by keeping operating rooms at North Valley running efficiently, which has contributed to the hospital’s high scores in patient satisfaction, the release noted.

“Dr. Amick is always looking for ways to make things run better, and he goes above and beyond to look out for his staff,” North Valley Hospital Director of Surgery Services Rob Romanelly said. “He once brought in homemade pizza for his staff, and in the beginning of the pandemic when masks were in short supply, he saw to it that staff had proper protection. He’s very positive all the time and you can tell that he loves this hospital.”

Amick’s new role will allow him to work as an intermediary between medical staff and hospital leadership to “communicate priorities from all parties, disseminate information, and advocate for needs of medical staff and the community.”

“North Valley Hospital excels because everyone works together for our patients, and it’s a whole team approach in which everyone feels comfortable to speak. I am one part of that team, and I look forward to working with everyone and bringing those ideas to the table,” Amick said, who worked at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before moving to Whitefish.

He has been married to his wife Kristin Yandora, a doctor in osteopathic medicine, for more than 20 years. The two have three children, Hannah, 18, Ethan, 13, and Meghan, 11. Outside of work, Amick enjoys mountain biking, hiking and skiing.
