Lakers split Monday’s twinbill with Senators

Kostya Hoffman allowed nine hits and one run with one strikeout to lead the Kalispell Lakers to a 2-1 victory over the Helena Senators in the second game of a Monday doubleheader.

The Lakers (34-14) fell 6-3 in the first game.

The Lakers won the second game, despite being outhit, 9-4.

Kalispell scored two runs on two hits and a walk in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Carver Van Aken led the Lakers at the plate, batting 2-for-3 with an RBI. Kael Willis and Ethan Diede also had hits for Kalispell.

In the first game, Helena broke open a 1-1 game with three runs in the fifth inning, then added two more in the top of the seventh. The Lakers tried to rally, scoring two runs in their half of the seventh, but fell short.

Gage Brink was 2-for-4 in that game, while Diede, Danny Kernan and Nicholas Gustafson had Kalispell’s RBI.

The Lakers dropped three of four games to the Senators, as they fell 6-5 in Sunday’s late game.

Kalispell led 5-4 after six innings, but gave up two runs in the top of the seventh.

Elijah Owens had a triple and two RBI in that one, while Kael Willis had a double and an RBI.
