Montana girls put down Wyoming rally in All-Stars

SHERIDAN, Wyo. — Forsyth’s Lindsey Hein scored 13 points, including a go-ahead basket with 36 seconds left, to help Montana win its eight straight in the Montana-Wyoming All-Stars girls’ basketball series Friday, 55-52.

Montana holds a 34-13 lead in the series, and seemed on the verge of a comfortable win at the Hoffman Golden Dome.

Then a 23-8 surge, capped by two straight baskets by Gabby Drube, had Wyoming up 52-48 with 2:34 left.

Per 406mtsports.com, Montana scored the last seven points. The 6-foot-6 Hein’s basket inside gave her team a 53-52 lead with 36 seconds left.

After Wyoming’s Ally Fretig missed two free throws with 16 seconds remaining, Scobey’s Gracey Lekvold, who had eight points in the first half and finished with 12, hit two freebies with 9.6 seconds left to pad the lead to 55-52.

Fort Benton’s Aspen Giese scored 13 points in the third quarter as Montana maintained its 25-17 halftime lead. When the fourth quarter began Montana led 42-34. Giese ended with a team-high 15 points.

Glacier product and UM-Western signee Emma Anderson went scoreless for Montana. Fretig led Wyoming with 16 points, including an 8-for-15 performance at the line.

The teams play again Saturday at Lockwood High School, on the outskirts of Billings.

Montana led the boys’ game 56-50 at the half at press time, getting two dunks from Drew Wyman. Montana leads that series 67-27, winning the last 10.
