Halverson a highlight as Flathead splits dual

MISSOULA — A quick lap by its boys’ short relay and a new height by Hania Halverson in the pole vault were among the highlights of Flathead’s dual track and field meet with Missoula Big Sky Tuesday.

The quartet of Nate Prieto, Daniel Reich, Trevor Burke and Alec Thomas zipped through the 400-meter relay in 45.01 seconds, which puts the Braves fourth in the Western AA.

Dylan Zink swept the high jump and triple jump for Flathead, which narrowly lost the boys’ dual to Big Sky 74-71.

The Bravettes cruised, 94-51.

Tessa Smith swept the high jump and triple jump for the Bravettes, who also had Lilli Rumsey Eash run her personal best in the 3,200 — 11:30.27, which sits sixth in Class AA.

Halverson, meanwhile, went a personal record 10 feet in the pole vault.

Halverson has progressed from 8-6 on April 27 to 9-0 on May 7 to now a tie for fifth-best mark in AA.

Flathead also had wins from Peyton Walker (400), Tori Noland-Gillespie (800), Sierra Vickrey (1,600), Kaylee Ferron (javelin), Rebecca Eacker (shot put) and its long relay team.

On the boys’ side Prieto and Thomas split wins in the 100 and 200, while Sam Aczas (800), Gabe Felton (1,600) and Peter Wilson (3,200) also provided wins.

Big Sky had a couple standout marks: Kade Olson’s 51.06 in the 400 now leads Class AA; and the Eagles’ Josh Smalley cleared 14-6 in the pole vault, which is the best in the conference and tied for best in AA.
