Hellgate outscores Walker, Braves

MISSOULA — Missoula Hellgate quarterback Connor Dick threw for 430 yards and six touchdowns, and ran for two more scores as the Knights outscored Flathead 62-38 in a Western AA football game Thursday night.

The visiting Braves (0-5 overall, 0-3 in league) put up 218 rushing yards, with quarterback Jackson Walker running for two touchdowns and throwing for one at MCPS Stadium.

Walker’s 3-yard scoring run at 9:22 of the second quarter brought Flathead to 20-14, but Hellgate responded with three touchdowns in less than four minutes to lead 41-14.

The Braves got a 43-yard TD pass from Walker to Brody Thornsberry just before halftime to trail 41-21 at intermission. .

By then Dick had 290 yards and five touchdowns through the air. He ended up 20 of 29 passing, with one interception. Ian Finch had nine catches for 181 yards and three scores. Leo Filardi had three receptions for 129 yards, including a one-handed grab he turned into a 69-yard score to make it 55-28 at 2:38 of the third quarter.

Jacob Sweatland rushed for 111 yards and a TD for Hellgate, and also caught a scoring pass.

Flathead’s first TD came on a 2-yard plunge from Kaden Henshaw, who later left the game with an injury. Walker added a 3-yard scoring run in the third quarter and Trevor Burke had an 18-yard TD burst in the fourth.

Connor Skalsky, who was 5-for-5 on PAT kids, also hit a 28-yard field goal.

Walker had 16 carries for 87 yards and was 8-for-17 passing for 115 yards. He was picked once. Burke had six carries for 68 yards; Thornsberry had three catches for 73 yards.

The Braves are back at Legends Stadium next Friday to play Missoula Sentinel.
