Experienced C-Falls wins Kat-Dog 21-0
WHITEFISH — Columbia Falls beat Whitefish 21-0 in three innings Thursday in the first installment of varsity Cat-Dog softball at the Smith Fields sports complex.
This spring marks the first year of Whitefish featuring varsity softball in a while, after only offering junior varsity in recent years.
Demye Rensel hit a three-run homer for the Wildkats and Haden Peters was 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored while driving in four more.
Peters also pitched a scoreless third inning in relief of starter Maddie Moultray who tossed two no-hit innings.
Whitefish starting pitcher Jude Perry limited the damage in the first by holding Columbia Falls to five runs but the Wildkats offense erupted for a 14-run second inning to take command of the game.
Eight different Wildkats had hits on the day and Columbia Falls head coach Dave Kehr was pleased with how his team performed at the plate.
"Hit the ball really well all the way through the lineup, leadoff hitter laid down a bunt to start and our number nine hitter hit the home run, happy with them hitting all the way through,” said Kehr.
The Wildkats also got production from Kyrah Trenkle who was 2-4 and matched Peters with four RBI to share the team lead. Maddy Collins also had a big day at the dish for Columbia Falls going 2-3 with three RBI while Sydney Mann reached base safely four times and came around to score each time.
Selena Simms got the lone base hit for the Bulldogs by beating out an infield single in the bottom of the third.
Overall Kehr was enthusiastic about the opportunity to compete against Whitefish.
"Definitely fun for them to have a team, no doubt about it,” he said.
