Shady Ladies perform concert

| June 22, 2023 12:00 AM

A new women’s vocal ensemble in the Flathead Valley will be presenting a free concert at the Hilton Garden Inn ballroom on Sunday, June 25, at 3 p.m.

The Shady Ladies formed a year ago and has developed a repertoire consisting of 1960s girl groups reminiscent of the recordings of Martha and Vandellas, the Shirelles, Leslie Gore, Connie Frances and Linda Ronstadt. The group has custom-arranged these pop tunes to suit their voices.

In addition to the 1960s era, the Shady Ladies perform tunes from as early as the 1920s and the 1930s made popular by the Boswell Sisters and Irving Berlin.

The Shady Ladies was the brainchild of Karla West of Kalispell who is the band leader and pianist for Cowboy Country and the Gold Dust Girls. She has also been the musical director for many productions at the Whitefish Theatre Company.

The voices of the Shady Ladies include Sandy Matheny, Connie Rudie, Valerie McGarvey, Wendy Nguyen and Dianne Guenther. Each Lady brings a wealth of musical talent and background, and together, these gifted individuals are enjoying their common love of singing together.

Doors open at 2:30 p.m. and the concert is free.
