FARMINGTON, Utah — Montana State's dynamic duo of Tommy Mellott and Jon Johnson, along with Weber State's Kyle Thompson, were tabbed as Big Sky Conference football players of the week after their impressive performances this past Saturday.

Mellott, a junior from Butte, rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns while passing for 99 yards on 9 of 14 passing in No. 2 MSU’s 42-30 win at then-No. 3 Sacramento State.

Mellott's first touchdown run was an 11-yarder early in the third quarter that stretched MSU's lead to 21-7; his second also covered 11 yards and put the Bobcats up 28-17 early in the fourth quarter. He pushed his career rushing yardage to 2,045, becoming the second Bobcat signal caller over 2,000.

Johnson, a junior from Gardena, Calif., had eight tackles, a pass breakup and an interception he returned for a touchdown against Sacramento State. Johnson’s pick-6 came at a key time, with Sacramento State leading 7-0 in the second quarter.

Both Mellott and Johnson wear No. 4 for the Cats.

Thompson made three field goals in Weber State’s 31-23 loss at Eastern Washington. He made field goals of 44, 40, and 34 yards. It’s the second-straight week he has made three field goals.

The Bobcats didn’t have a special teams nominee. The Montana Grizzlies were idle Saturday.
