Valkyries hand Browning first league loss

BIGFORK — Bigfork’s Ava Davey scored 10 of her 15 points in a first-quarter surge that carried the Valkyries past Browning 59-30 in a Northwest A girls basketball matchup Tuesday.

Paeten Gunlock hit three 3-pointers and scored a game-high 16 points for the Vals (11-1 overall, 6-0 in league), who led 24-3 going to the second quarter. Braeden Gunlock had 13 points, including an 8-for-12 performance at the line.

Kalcie Connelly’s eight points led Browning (6-4, 3-1).

POLSON — Julia Barnard led a balanced Polson attack with 10 points, and the Pirates built a nice lead over the middle two quarters on the way to the Northwest A win.

Rylee Taylor-Jefferson added nine for the Pirates (6-6 overall, 3-3 in Northwest A games), seven in the fourth quarter — on four free throws and a 3-pointer.

Madison Vincent had a game-high 19 points for LIbby (1-9, 0-4), nine in the fourth quarter where she hit two of her four 3-pointers.

BONNERS FERRY, Idaho — The Eureka Lady Lions dropped a non-conference game against the Bonners Ferry Badgers despite a 17-10 first-quarter lead and three players in double figures.

Taren Bateman scored 37 points and Asha Abubakari added 29 for the Idaho Class 3A Badgers (11-6), whose enrollment matches up with Class A in Montana. Each girl hit three 3-pointers.

Aubrey Casazza hit half of the Class B Lions’ four 3-pointers, both in the fourth quarter where she scored 11 of her team-high 13 points. Haidyn Guckenberg and Kara Stanger added 10 points each for Eureka (4-6).
