Glenn Miller, 81
Glenn W. Miller, 81, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Dec. 20, 2023, with Linda, his wife of 39 years, by his side. Born on April 3, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, to Merle and May Miller, he was the youngest of four boys. His Norwegian mother instilled pride in their Viking heritage and Glenn reflected that resilience and determination throughout his life.
He was always very motivated and set outstanding goals for himself. As a young man he worked as a tradesman for his father's flooring business and worked a second job as a car salesman. His natural talent as an extraordinary salesman led him to the insurance industry where he progressed to owning agencies in three states and eventually he left the cold Chicago winters for the warmth of Florida where he began his career in real estate.
Glenn was part of an explosive growth era in the commercial sector as supermarket and drugstore chains grew rapidly in a booming market. During his career Glenn developed across the state for many of the large chains at the time. Among them were Publix, Eckerds, Winn-Dixie, Kash n Karry and Jacobsens. He also developed several of the first Tractor Supply stores in the state. He enjoyed his career in real estate immensely and was especially fond of recalling times when deals were done on cocktail napkins and sealed with a handshake.
He dealt with challenges and adversity with both his career and health throughout his life. His tenacity and unfailing optimism no matter what the circumstance were part of what defined him as such a remarkable and impressive man.
Glenn and Linda enjoyed living in several areas of Florida but their main residence of over 20 years was in the Isleworth community of Windermere where they enjoyed many wonderful years and made lifelong friends.
He always had a passion for the west. When his close friend, Tom Morgan, brought him to the perfect spot in Montana in 2005, Glenn and Linda built their dream vacation home in Bigfork, on Loon Lake. Many idyllic summers, and a few winters, were spent with their German shepherds, horses and the incredible beauty of nature in the mountains of Montana.
Riding Harley-Davidsons throughout gorgeous western vistas and boating on spectacular Flathead Lake were favorite pastimes for many years, and there was nothing Glenn enjoyed more than an evening of laughter and tall tales with his dear friends at his log home by the lake. He also loved being able to share those times with his grandchildren, Coty and Evan, of whom he was so proud.
Glenn was very blessed to have cherished and devoted friends until the end of his life. He was still working on "big deals" during his last days. It was impossible to not be drawn in by his vibrant spirit, quick wit, big laugh and infectious sense of humor. He will be deeply missed but forever in our hearts.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his children and their spouses, Cherie (Todd) Cocallas, Natalie Miller, Stacy (Todd) Menendez; and his grandchildren, Coty Cocallas Bond, Evan Cocallas, Josh Cuellar and Izabella Miller. He also leaves behind his beloved German shepherds, Caesar and Jessie, to protect and comfort Linda.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
