Montana's Evan Todd makes NCAA Championships
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — On his third and final throw of the prelims, Montana’s Evan Todd threw the javelin 227 feet Wednesday, moving up 27 places to ninth at the NCAA First Round meet and into the NCAA Championships June 5-8.
The Glacier High graduate sat in 36th before unleashing his qualifying throw, diving to the ground upon his release. This will be his first trip to the NCAA Championships.
“It was really a great lesson in athletics, the way that things went down with Evan today,” Montana coach Doug Fraley said. “His first two efforts were arguably the two worst throws he’s had the entire season.
“For him to be able to put that on the shelf and get himself mentally and emotionally prepared to do what Evan Todd does on his third attempt in a do-or-die situation, it just shows you the power of having really good focus and discipline and being able to lock in on the task at hand.”
