A night of high school chaos, comedy, and mayhem — GHS presents two hilarious one-act plays
Prepare for a blend of humor, mayhem, and unpredictable moments as Glacier High School’s Acting and Stage Production class shares two comedy-filled one-act plays.
The first play, “Friday Night Sprites” by Don Zolidis, takes the audience on a hilarious ride through the challenges of being a football coach in Texas. With no money for helmets, a field that needs to be painted, and a constant struggle to recruit enough boys for the team, Coach Thompson is desperately trying to hold things together. But he soon faces his greatest challenge yet when the star quarterback leaves to play Peaseblossom in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” As a last resort, the coach leans toward the mystical — seeking a cursed monkey’s paw to wish for a better team. But someone else may have already made that wish. This brand-new play promises a fresh and exciting experience.
“I first read the new play 'Friday Night Sprites’ over the Holiday break in December when it was sent to me through a special mailing list for the author Don Zolidis,” Director and Acting and Stage Class instructor Greg Adkins said. “I laughed out loud and read bits and pieces to other teachers, students, and family — and they all reacted similarly. The laughter brought some of my friends to tears. We are excited to be one of the first, if not the first, high schools to produce the play.”
The second performance, “This Is a Test” by Stephen Gregg, takes a comedic look at the high-stakes pressure of a final exam. With only 60 minutes to finish, and a ticking clock reminding you of every poor decision, the protagonist struggles with a test, a teacher who doesn’t like them, and classmates who blatantly cheat. The situation gets even worse when the essay question is in Chinese. With its over-the-top portrayal of high school stress and personal chaos, this farce should have the audience laughing at its sheer absurdity.
The Acting and Stage class includes: Trevor Hammer, Sophie Johnson, Taya Cross, Kaylin Stein, Naemi Creighton, Wayland Ludwig, Mikayla Gallery, Anda Wahl, Evelyn Creighton, Natalie Greene, Lavender Ashby, Lincoln Shumard, Z Belt, Fenyx Colby, Logan Dunham, Chloe Franklin, Hilda Weber, Quinn Dunham, Jasper Koppelberger, Brooklyn Carpenter, Karmin Largent, Marin Colley, K Perigan, Hailey Gunderson, Lillie Groom.
Behind the scenes Lillie Groom, Abigail Haley, Zach Nases, Jackson Presley, Megan Mikelson, Zaden Stout, Micah Pichardo, Layla Pate, Theron Wilton and Isabelle McKoy make up the stage, sound and lighting crew.
Through the class, students develop acting skills through monologues, ensemble work and full-play productions.
