Nancy Lee Sweeney, 77

| February 5, 2025 12:00 AM

Nancy Lee (Fletcher) Sweeney, 77, died from complications of Alzheimer's disease on Jan. 30, 2025, at Beehive Homes of Kalispell, with family by her side. Nancy fought the good fight; she kept the faith; she has entered into the joy of her Lord.

Born May 23, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri, Nancy was the first of three children born to Danvers Raymond Fletcher and Betty Louise Lyon.

In the early 1950s, Nancy's family moved to Orange County, California where she graduated from Santa Ana High School in 1965. She married Eugene Sweeney on June 21, 1969, and in 1972 they relocated to Tucson, Arizona, where they lived five years, before returning to Orange County. In 2018, Nancy and Gene relocated to Kalispell to live near their children and grandchildren.

She worked for many years as a medical transcriptionist, then became church secretary at Calvary Chapel of the Canyons for twelve years before retiring early due to Alzheimer's disease.

Nancy's joys were her family and friends, her Christian faith, her church family, nature, gardening, reading, the arts, and her dogs. She and Gene took countless vacations and day trips to explore nature and savor its beauty, instilling in their children that same reverence and delight in nature.

She blessed everyone who knew her with her sweet temperament, loving kindness, positivity, and patience.

In confronting her early Alzheimer's diagnosis in 2013, Nancy demonstrated that even when our life's path becomes narrow and thorny, we can choose to walk it with grace, hope, love, and gratitude.

She took great comfort in the promises of the Scriptures, including this verse that rings especially joyous: "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory..." (2 Corinthians 4:17)

Nancy is survived by her son, Jason P. Sweeney; her brothers, Douglas R. Fletcher and Danvers L. Fletcher; her granddaughters, Elizabeth Sweeney, Emily Sweeney, and Marley (Chapman) Bryant; and several cousins, nephews, and a niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Danvers and Betty Fletcher; her son, Brent Allen Chapman; and her husband, Eugene James Sweeney.

"For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known." — 1 Corinthians 13:12
