Man wanted in Powell County arrested after high-speed chase near Jewel Basin

A man wanted in Powell County for violating probation was arrested Monday after leading authorities on a high-speed chase near Foothills Road.

Joseph Castell, 54, allegedly fled a traffic stop on Sept. 15, prompting a pursuit by Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputies. Castell abandoned his vehicle at a residence on Foothills Road and took off on foot, temporarily evading deputies.

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deployed drones, patrol units and the Two Bear Air rescue helicopter to assist in the search. A search warrant was obtained for the residence, and Castell surrendered after a SWAT team surrounded the home.

He was booked into the county jail on a pending charge of felony criminal endangerment.
