Downtown Bozeman is seen on Oct. 14, 2021. Bozeman has become a hotbed for startups and pandemic-era remote workers. For the first time in 30 years, the Census has awarded Montana a second seat in Congress and a commission is being tasked with determining how to divide the state into two congressional districts. Republicans are pushing to separate the two booming, college towns of Bozeman and Missoula in the western half of the state, hoping that by putting the two Democratic-leaning communities in different districts it will make it hard for Democrats to win either seat.
