TRANSCRIPT

We are only three weeks away from official Fall. I love this time of year as the temperature and the tourists cool off and my favorite haunts and activities are a little less peopled. From pool parties to history walks, concerts to threshing bees, dragon boats to trail runs this week holds a myriad of events to get you out and about.

I’m Melissa Wells with your Local Events podcast. Let’s find your next best time.

The Northwest Montana History Museum hosts their Downtown Kalispell Walking Tour for several dates throughout September. This is a special opportunity to be guided throughout historic downtown Kalispell by a museum guide and get to know 30+ buildings that tell the story of Kalispell’s evolution and people. This 2-hour tour is ADA accessible, makes more than a dozen stops and covers about one mile. Peep the description for all the dates or visit FlatheadTickets.com to reserve your spot.

Dive in at the Lodge at Whitefish Lake for their Friends in the 406 Pool Party & Open Swim on Mondays in September from 2:00 to 9:00 pm. Show your valid Montana ID and prove your local street cred to gain entry. Younglings under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The Tiki bar will be open for pizza and drinks and DJ Halladay will be spinning tunes on Monday September 2nd from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. This sounds like a blast and I know I could use a pool day by my favorite lake.

Big Sky City Lights is a busy duo this week as they grace the stage at Thirty Eight in Whitefish on Tuesday September 3rd at 6:00 pm and then head to my favorite place to work, the Daily Inter Lake, for our Press Play lunch concert on Friday September 6th at noon. Check out this Thursday’s Daily Inter Lake for an interview with this cross-country duo. Reserve your seat for Press Play at FlatheadTickets.com. It should be dreamy!

The Wachholz College Center hosts Don McLean for a night of hits and stories on Wednesday September 4th. Of “American Pie” renowned, Don McLean had amassed over 40 gold and platinum albums worldwide. At last check, there were still a few seats available.

Grab your kiddo and head to Whitefish for a Spanish with Toddlers class at the Whitefish Community Center on Thursdays from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Former Whitefish High School Spanish teacher, Laura Hardwicke leads kids and their grownups through fun activities and songs.

It’s the first Thursday of the month and downtown Whitefish once again makes way for Whitefish Gallery Nights from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. You may see DJ JC spinning mellow tunes at the Underscore Gallery at just one of the many galleries and shops staying open late. Gallery Nights is a great way to fill your cup with refreshments and creativity.

Ladies and gentlemen, start your tractors! Join the Northwest Antique Power Association for their annual Antique Engine Tractor Threshing Bee & Car Show. The Bee is held Friday through Sunday September 6th through 8th and is a really interesting and fun family activity. There are mini railroad rides, rope making, quilt displays and lots of tractors of all sizes. Get that quintessential photo of your kiddo standing next to a super tall tractor tire.

Row to Polson to view the Montana Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday September 7th. This epic adventure is held in Polson on the river. Participate or come to watch these unique boats row down the river. Great family fun complete with vendors, food and music.

Bias Brewing and the Flathead County Library are teaming up for a Back-To-School Block Party on Saturday September 7th at Bias Brewing from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Join in the celebration of public libraries and sign up for a library card – grownups get a free beer – and enjoy tunes from Hannah King and Andrew Brozek. Interactive activities for the kiddos provided by the library.

Lace up your tennies and grab your bear spray for the annual Foy’s to Blacktail Trail Marathon on Sunday September 8th. This race is a fundraiser for the Foy’s to Blacktail Trail System which accounts for 34 miles and this Trail Run will show off some of the newest trails in this system. Meet up at Herron Park in Kalispell and catch the bus to the start of the Lakeside to Blacktail Trail in Lakeside.
