Ruby Mae Dorsey, 91

| October 21, 2020 12:00 AM

Ruby M Dorsey, 91, of Kalispell, passed away peacefully on Oct. 9, 2020, having waited for her daughter Jane from Spokane to be able to come over and be with her.

Ruby was born March 31, 1929, to Morgan W. Galloupe in Lewistown. She was the eldest of four children. She was raised in Lewistown with the help of her grandmother, Berniece E. Dorsey.

Ruby spent most of her working years as a secretary, at Civil Defense in Walla Walla, Washington, United Paint, and DSHS (Department of Social and Health Services) in Spokane. Later she became a caregiver for Home Options in Kalispell, and worked helping others well into her 80s. She was such a blessing to many here in the Flathead Valley, helping them through the later stages of their lives.

She raised three children in the mid-‘60s through the ‘70s as a single parent, making sure they never went with out anything they needed.

Ruby loved her many cats she had over the years, and often said you were never fully dressed with out some cat hairs on your clothes. She loved gardening, and raised anything she could get her hands on — flowers, vegetables and trees. In the ‘60s and ‘70s, her gardens were more than a hobby, as she raised vegetables and canned them for the family.

She enjoyed her grandchildren and often wished she could see more of them. Burt was the only grandchild here in Kalispell, and she spent as much time with him as she could. In the late ‘90s she moved from town out to live on the farm with her daughter Sarah, husband Jerry and grandson Burt west of town, building a cute mother-in-law house designed by Sarah and built by close friend Bill.

Ruby is survived by her children, David A. Scott and wife Theresa in Spokane, Jane E. Potter and husband Terry Hetrick in Spokane, and Sarah B. Nelson and husband Jerry in Kalispell; grandchildren, Alicia Potter, Burt Ross Fair-Nelson, Sue Harman, and Aaron Lee; great-grandchildren, Justine Potter, Jachai Reeves, William Potter IV, Savannah Potter, Danieal Parks, Brandon Harmon, Spencer lee and Catlin Lee; great-great-grandchildren, Kyra Green and Addidan Parks; her sister, Elsa B. Saffel; nephew James Alexander and wife Robin; and many dear friends she made along her journey.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Morgan and Alice Galloupe; grandmother, Berniece Dorsey; her sister, Marian Galloupe; and twin brother, Marvin Galloupe; her son-in-law, William “Tim” Frank Potter II; and her grandson, William “Will” Frank Potter III.

There will be a celebration of life on her favorite summer activity, the annual Fourth of July potluck and barbecue at her daughter’s home in Kalispell. A dear friend of the family’s, Bill Burback, will speak.
