The neighbor left when the man pepper-sprayed her, but deputies tracked down the woman and arrested her on suspicion of probation violation. The altercation reportedly started because the man wouldn't pick up a neighbor, who had suffered a heart attack, at the emergency room.

Lawrence "Bud" Joseph Ring died Jan. 23, 2009, in Spokane. He was 79 years old at his time of death. Bud was born June 28, 1929, to Walter and Eva (Campbell) Ring in Edmonton, Alberta. During Bud's early teenage years, he worked alongside his mother, who was a well-known trainer/jockey, at the local horse-race track, training horses and occasionally racing horses as a jockey.

A Trails End Drive woman told Flathead County sheriff's deputies she was receiving harassing phone calls from a local phone company and wanted the calls to stop. The company had the wrong number and her account was paid up, she said. Turns out the woman's son gave her number as a secondary contact for billing questions. Phone company officials told deputies the calls would stop when the bill got paid.

Duane Harry Fredenberg "is now playing his fiddle with the angels" after a brief battle with cancer. He passed, peacefully, surrounded by family on Jan. 16, 2009. Duane and his twin brother, Dale, were born to Anson and Ruth Fredenberg in Kalispell on June 14, 1926, the 12th and 11th of 16 children. As a boy, Duane helped with the family farm and began a lifelong love of music when he taught himself how to play the harmonica. His grandfather played the fiddle and Duane learned so he could someday have his granddad's instrument.

Kalispell police arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of attempted robbery after he allegedly held a knife to his roommate's throat and demanded $400. The suspect is accused of punching his victim in the face, holding him to the ground, and then demanding to be taken to the bank. The incident occurred outside a First Avenue West bar, where the pair reportedly had been drinking. The suspect was arrested at the victim's residence shortly after police were notified. The victim, a 21-year-old man, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

A woman and her three children fled Tuesday evening when her intoxicated husband reportedly began shooting guns in their Lost Prairie Road house, according to the Flathead County Sheriff's Office. The man then barricaded himself in the residence, prompting a call to the county SWAT team. The initial call to the sheriff came in at 6:24 p.m. Tuesday.

Concerned citizens also reported numerous injured deer around the valley.An irate driver called Kalispell police Monday to report that a woman talking on her cell phone while driving a blue Ford Escalade caused a pedestrian to dive into a snowbank on Main Street to avoid getting struck.Police offices retrieved items stolen from a boutique on Main Street Monday after catching up with the suspect a few blocks away from the scene of the crime. A man was charged with theft and obstruction.A thief may be wiser but not much richer from stealing a backpack from an unlocked vehicle on Ninth Avenue West. The backpack contained only school books and a calculator.Three men made a getaway from a restaurant on East Idaho by hitchhiking a ride by the underpass. However, officers caught up with their benefactor and the men forked over $18.97 for their meal.Officers responded to an alleged assault on Sixth Avenue West North late Sunday. The caller tried to pick up her sister but was assaulted by the sister's boyfriend and received minor injuries in the scuffle. Charges are pending investigation.Two men, ages 17 and 18, were arrested Sunday and charged with shoplifting at a store on U.S. 93 north.

Flathead County sheriff
A 24-year-old man ran his car off Helena Flats Road. The resident in whose yard the vehicle ended up called Flathead County sheriff's deputies about the unwanted incursion. Deputies responded and ended up arresting the man in connection with probation violation.
