Even the pet birds and cats were saved when Kalispell Fire Department went to a house fire on Fifth Avenue West Thursday night. The fire started in a closet of the home. Four people evacuated before the fire department arrived. Firefighters quickly put out the fire, which had spread to the ceiling and walls. A large cage containing birds was moved to a neighbor's house and two cats were reunited with their owners later. Damage was estimated at $15,000 for the house; estimates for the loss in personal items are pending. Whitefish Fire Department provided an ambulance to cover Kalispell's calls during the fire.
