after a woman called for help from Parliament Drive, saying she was assaulted by a boy in a camouflage jacket and a Mohawk haircut. The boy reportedly pulled a knife, threatened to kill her and punched her in the eye over disagreement about a pit bull. He was charged with felony assault, obstructing an officer for reportedly giving a fictitious name, and underage tobacco possession. Other charges are pending.

Driver's lack of control leads to charges
Kalispell Police stopped a driver on suspicion of drunken driving Thursday night on Center Street. He was handcuffed behind his back and placed in a patrol car. Assistant Police Chief Roger Krauss said the man managed to manipulate his arms from behind his back to his front and then "urinated all over inside the car." As a result, he was charged with disorderly conduct, obstructing an officer, criminal mischief and having an open container of alcohol.

He left, but was back at 3 a.m. By 3:30, he decided to spend the night with another family member. He clung to that decision until 4:45, when he returned to the house, left, and came back yet again. When he started banging his head on the wall, his sibling decided to press charges and the man was settled into the jail by 5 a.m.

Dorothy was the youngest of seven children. She lived her early years in Climax, Saskatchewan, as well as graduating there; it is also where her parents had homesteaded.

The Flathead County Sheriff's Office was busy with reports of improper shooting
as hunting season opened Sunday. Complaints came from Browns Meadow Road, Church Drive, and Lake Blaine Road. On Star Meadow Road, three people who arrived in a blue truck with a ladder rack started shooting .22-caliber weapons in all directions. When a man told them to stop, they fired off a couple of rounds in his direction before leaving. At Whitetail Meadows, a hunter said a man took the hunter's rifle off the ground, loaded a round, and pointed the weapon at him. He was accidentally crossing private property at the time, he said.

On Angel Ridge Road, a man said his teenage daughter hit him with a knife and cut his nose. He wanted her removed from the house. The girl's mother said he hit the girl in the face. He said he put her in a headlock after she struck him.
Firefighters get a handle on blazes
Kalispell Fire Department quickly extinguished a house fire in the 1000 block of Fifth Avenue East Friday at about 10:20 a.m. No one was hurt. Assistant Chief Brent Christopherson said it appears the fire started between a fireplace insert and a masonry chimney. There was damage to the living room, the attic and the fireplace area. The American Red Cross was called to help the family.

Kalispell police arrested a woman on suspicion of DUI on Saturday, but her trouble intensified with another charge of assaulting a police officer. Kalispell police Chief Frank Garner said Laura Miller, 38, kicked an officer in the head and scratched him with bloody hands.
Neighbors shooting high-powered rifles in a subdivision
The Flathead County Sheriff's Office reported that a North Fork Road resident wanted to talk to someone about neighbors shooting high-powered rifles in a subdivision. More shooting was reported at Lion Lake Campground. A resident on Browns Meadow Road caught a man shooting a deer on his property. The deer went to the Food Bank, and law enforcement dealt with the poacher.
Man injured in vehicle accident
The Kalispell Fire Department sent an ambulance to Fifth Avenue West on Sunday evening for a man who was injured in a vehicle accident. The department went to a report of smoke behind the Daily Inter Lake that may have come from brush piles burning on Whitefish Stage Road.
16-year-old boy arrested for DUI in Whitefish
Whitefish police arrested a 16-year-old boy for DUI and having no insurance or driver's license on Second Street West. A 15-year-old boy at the high school was arrested for possession of drugs, paraphernalia and tobacco.

Takeout leads to indigestion
Fast-food rage was reported to Kalispell Police, where it ended badly for one woman. From Taco Bell came a complaint that a woman wouldn't move her vehicle and threatened employees because her order was wrong. She agreed to not return to the business. At McDonald's, a woman's belligerence in the drive-through ended with her arrest for her third DUI.
Flathead County Sheriff's Office took several reports about alcohol and underage drinkers.
A man reported that outside a convenience store, some teens asked him to buy beer and a girl threw in an offer of sex, but he declined. A bartender reported a girl trying to buy alcohol, but it turned out to be part of a law-enforcement check to make sure that businesses don't sell to minors. A report of a bartender serving under-age drinkers at the Packers Roost turned out to be a man's lame attempt to cause problems for the bartender.

Here it is, Oct. 1, and it's a good thing that Christmas decorations are currently well-stocked in local stores - it would be unforgivable, and maybe unconstitutional, if the impulse to purchase an animated snowman speaker with pulsing lights on a sunny autumn day was denied by a lack of retail forethought.
