Smoldering campfire turns explosive

An explosion was reported a little before 8 p.m. Friday, but all the Smith Valley Fire Department found was a campfire on U.S. 2 West. A few hours later, the Flathead Valley Sheriff's Department received more phone calls from the same area; this time the explosion shook houses and knocked pictures off walls. The boom was reportedly from homemade rockets lit in the fire.

Flathead County Sheriff's Office took several reports about alcohol and underage drinkers.

A man reported that outside a convenience store, some teens asked him to buy beer and a girl threw in an offer of sex, but he declined. A bartender reported a girl trying to buy alcohol, but it turned out to be part of a law-enforcement check to make sure that businesses don't sell to minors. A report of a bartender serving under-age drinkers at the Packers Roost turned out to be a man's lame attempt to cause problems for the bartender.

New music on the air is best early present for Christmas

Here it is, Oct. 1, and it's a good thing that Christmas decorations are currently well-stocked in local stores - it would be unforgivable, and maybe unconstitutional, if the impulse to purchase an animated snowman speaker with pulsing lights on a sunny autumn day was denied by a lack of retail forethought.
