No services will be held at this time; however, a gathering for friends and family will be held in Kalispell, date and time to be announced and published later. This will be a celebration of her life with her husband of almost 69 years. A tentative date is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19.

After a man allegedly made a vulgar reference to a woman at a residence on First Avenue North in Hungry Horse, two other men threatened him with a baseball bat and a shotgun Sunday night. One man, 51, was arrested for assault with a weapon and a criminal contempt warrant, and his son, 21, was arrested for assault with a weapon by Flathead County sheriff's deputies. No one was hurt.

As a young child in school, she lived in Denver. When she was in the eighth grade, the family moved to Miles City. Velva graduated with honors' from high school in 1932. She received a National Honor Society pin her senior year, at the age of 16.

Frances M. Roe (aka ÒGranny FrannyÓ) passed away on Monday, July 6, 2009, at Heritage Place in Kalispell. She was born on Feb. 12, 1920, in Cooperstown, N.D., the third daughter of four children to Leslie L. and Frances M. Slyter. She was raised in Williston, N.D., and moved to Kalispell in 1938. She graduated from Flathead County High School in 1939.To help with the war effort during World War II, Frances worked for Boeing assembling aircraft. Upon returning to Kalispell, she met and married Archie D. Roe. She was a devoted mother and housewife, and later worked for several local businesses. After the death of Archie she became a secretary at the Kalispell Senior Center until she retired at the age of 80.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sisters, Shirley Ottenstror and Betty Vandenover.She is survived by her brother, Leslie D. ÒBudÓ Slyter, of Kalispell; daughter, Leslie A. and husband, Curtis Lund, of Reno, Nev.; sons, Richard and wife, Lisa, and Dan and wife, Jill, of Kalispell; five granddaughters, Lisa Hoffman, Amy Judd, Staci Lund, and Wendy Gray, all of Reno, and Jenna Roe of Kalispell; two grandsons, Christopher Lund of Reno, and Tyler Roe of Kalispell; and five great-grandchildren, Cody and Madison Judd, Hailey and Cade Hoffman, and Riley Gray, all of Reno.ÒWe love you and will miss you, Mom.ÓAt FrancesÕ request, no service was held. Ken had many passions in life, but his greatest passion was his girls, Karen and Katie. He was a great husband, father, son, uncle, brother-in-law and friend. He was very enthusiastic about civil rights, and was also active in USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association) competitions. He was a master shooter.Ken lived a simple life but was a very complex man. ÒHe would want us to be strong and go on with life. Alfred Edward Binnie, 89
Dearly loved Alfred E. Binnie ÒAlfÓ passed away at Brendan House with Joan at his side on July 17, 2009. Born Jan. 6, 1920, in Montreal, Quebec, Alf completed school and joined the Royal Air Force Bomber Command in England to become a pilot during World War II. Surviving an air attack behind enemy lines in 1942, he became a POW for four years in Germany. Upon return to Canada, Alf purchased Mountain View Bungalow Resort and during the winter was director of the ski school at Jasper in Quebec at St. Donat, a well-known area in the Laurentians. Alf was always an avid skier and relished entertaining his guests at the resort. His love for music and playing the guitar continued throughout his life. Alf and Joan were married in 1950 and to this day she remains the love of his life. Alf and Joan moved to Long Beach, Calif., in 1959 when Alf joined California Federal Bank. Later, Alf became a certified appraiser with MAI designation. They enjoyed their life in California, with camping, skiing and gardening the focus of their spare time. Alf was very interested in classic cars and until recently made the annual trip to Carmel, Calif., for the car show. After almost 30 years in California, Alf retired and they chose to move north so that he could pursue his love of skiing. They settled in Whitefish after building their home together and have maintained it with meticulous attention. Alf and Joan have lived in Whitefish for almost 20 years. Alf was a dear and gentle man and will be missed. The family has chosen no service at this time.
