Gene Arlen Harland, 75, passed away March 24, 2006, at the Immanuel Lutheran Home. Gene was born June 7, 1930, in Frankfort, Ind. His mother died during childbirth. Raised by maternal grandparents, Gene enjoyed life on their small farm. Working the dairy cows and operating the cream separator proved "tough duty." Fishing for bass and rabbit-hunting helped to balance his responsibilities. He remembers always having "what we needed" during the Depression.

Faced with a half dozen officers and some Tasers, the man agreed to come down and was handcuffed without further trouble.

Police arrested a 48-year-old Kalispell man
early Sunday morning for punching another man in the face and threatening him with a knife outside Fatt Boys. The victim had a cut above an eye, and was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center. Information on whether the cut came from the knife was not available. Fatt Boys reported two more fights breaking out within two hours of that assault, but the fighters were gone both times when police arrived.
A car at Mike's Conoco
drove off while the gasoline pump's hose was still attached to its gas tank. The hose ripped away from the pump and trailed the departing car like a tail. The damaged pump apparently did not result in a major gas spill, Whitefish police said.
