Zell Miller, the Democratic senator from Georgia who grabbed the country's attention with his endorsement of President George W. Bush at the 2004 Republican National Convention, will speak in Kalispell this month.

Stillwater Christian School is bringing him to town March 23 for its second annual fundraiser, "For Such a Time as This."

Dinner begins at 7 p.m. in the WestCoast Kalispell Center Hotel, with Miller's speech closing out the evening.

Throughout his career, Miller has a been a U.S. senator, Georgia governor, best-selling author of six books, university professor and sergeant in the U.S. Marines. His job description changed, but he remained an outspoken Christian.

He's been described as one of the most popular, colorful and enduring political figures in America today.

He is the only person to have been the keynote speaker at both the Republican and Democratic national conventions.

"In a world filled with plastic and phonies," a fellow governor once said, "Zell Miller is the genuine article with the bark still on."

As a governor, he cut taxes, instituted a college scholarship program offering free tuition to students with B averages, and started a voluntary statewide pre-kindergarten program for all 4-year-olds.

Miller retired from the U.S. Senate in January 2005.

To get a sampling of Miller's style and philosophy, tune in from 9 to 10 a.m. March 13 to the statewide radio call-in talk show "Berg in the Morning." It will be broadcast locally on KJJR/880 AM.

Table sponsorships begin at $325 and include eight invitations.
