Libby: 15 years of asbestos aftermath

Inclusive love must also be tolerant
On Monday, the Whitefish City Council will take up the request of a group named Love Lives Here to craft a “no hate” ordinance for the city.
Property rights law: You can look it up
In the Nov. 25 edition of the Inter Lake, Mr. Wes James asserts, “Private property rights apply to the land which is at an elevation above the mean high water line while the state owns the land which is below the mean high water line.”

Stevens-Parsons
Mary Kathrine Stevens and Drew Ronald Parsons were married Sept. 13 in Kalispell.
Is it love, or hate, that lives here?
I recently read the Whitefish Pilot’s story, “Whitefish rallies for ‘no hate’ ordinance.” According to the story, 100 people, led by a group known as “Love Lives Here,” packed into Whitefish’s small town city council chambers demanding our local government pass an ordinance prohibiting Richard Spencer and the National Policy Institute he represents from doing business or having offices in Whitefish.

Is Tutvedt really putting needs of constituents first?
Sen. Bruce Tutvedt objects to being censured by the Flathead County Republican Central Committee. He believes his actions with respect to the Salish and Kootenai Reserved Water Rights Compact “best represent the majority of my constituents’ needs.” And he says he’s got “skin in the game” because he’s the “largest irrigator in Flathead Valley.”

Speech, love and hate
Donovan Emerson’s letter published in the Nov. 23 opinion page raises an important question. When does human rights advocacy itself conflict with the respectful tolerance of others?
Whitefish council is 'clueless'
As administrator of the Flathead Area Secular Humanist Association, it was with great interest that I read recent stories about the Whitefish City Council’s hearing a proposal about writing an ordinance that would make Whitefish a “no-hate” community — by creating “a caring, open, accepting and diverse community free from discrimination and dedicated to the equal treatment of all citizens,” as one proponent was quoted as saying.

What about good & evil?
Disconnect. That is the feeling any sane person must have when watching the rioting in Ferguson, or when listening to the self-proclaimed wise men justify the rioting. How can anyone blame the policeman who killed Michael Brown for defending himself and the rest of us from violence? How can anyone turn Michael Brown, who first attacked a store owner and stole from him, and then beat a policeman, into a hero?

They retained the original second-story cornice and metal columns. The front stucco was resurfaced and painted and wood columns were stripped, oiled and painted. The final touches will include awnings and new mahogany doors incorporating original metal grillwork that was found in the basement. Fitzsimmons hopes to have everything completed by early December.
