Flathead's Gravelle, Krautbauer off to fast starts

Flathead's Riley Gravelle won the pole vault (12-6) and 300 hurdles (44.3) while Allie Krautbauer finished first in the high jump (4-10 1/2) and placed in three other events during an informal track competition Friday afternoon at Rawson Field.

Krautbauer also came through with a second in the long jump, a fourth in the 100 and ran on the winning FHS A 400 relay team.

The outing for Flathead athletes was scheduled much like a state meet with the boys holding nine events and the girls eight on the first day. The remaining events will take place on Monday, starting at 4 p.m. at Rawson Field.

"Without this, we had nothing," said Hodge. u"For us, (at least) this is a starting point. Otherwise it would have been four weeks of practice without a meet."

Flathead officially begins the track season April 8 in Great Falls with a dual against Great Falls High. This year, that turns out to be a week later than most schools.

"For us, this will decide who our varsity and junior varsity will be for Great Falls," said Hodge.
