Land swap on FVCC agenda

Flathead Valley Community College trustees vote Monday on a land swap that exchanges 25 acres of college land along U.S. 93 for 109 acres of river frontage plus $300,000.

Signature Theatre owner Phil Harris approached college President Jane Karas about the trade. The 25-acre parcel on the north end of the campus borders property where Harris plans to build a new theater complex south of the Target store.

With the 109 acres, the college campus would grow to 209 acres. The land the college would acquire runs along the Stillwater River and the college's eastern border to West Reserve Drive.

The cash payment represents the difference in the appraised value of the college's commercial acreage and Harris' residential land.

If trustees approve the deal Monday, the transaction becomes final in 15 days unless someone files an appeal. The college invites written comments about the proposed transaction to:
