| August 6, 2005 1:00 AM

The Grounded Eagle Foundation 2005 Fundraiser Auction will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Condon Community Hall in Condon.

Original art by many area artists, antiques, quilts, field trips and tools are just some of the many items that will be available.

Proceeds will go toward helping injured eagles to fly again. All are welcome.

Pie social today benefits library

Apple, peach and pumpkin - and huckleberry, raspberry, lemon meringue and pecan - are some of the flavors you'll find from 7 until 9 p.m. Saturday at the annual Mountain Brook Community Library pie social.

Most of the pies will be cut into slices and topped with ice cream. There is no set price for a slice of pie, but donations are accepted.

A few individually priced whole pies also will be available for purchase.

The evening will include entertainment and a silent auction of items donated by local merchants, along with quilted and craft items made by members of the Mountain Brook community.

Four local artists also have contributed artwork - Allen Jimmerson, Nancy Cawdrey, Jeff Fleming and Mountain Metal Art.

Proceeds will go toward the operation of the Mountain Brook Community Library, 2353 Foothill Road.

Starting its fourth year of operation, the library is open from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Call Carol Beck-Edgar at 837-2061.

Celebrate families this weekend

The Boys and Girls Club of Glacier Country will host special events celebrating families Sunday.

It's part of a nationwide effort to establish a National Kids Day, and it is backed by research showing that meaningful time helps foster stronger relationships between parents and children.

Locally, the Boys and Girls Club will sponsor a discount day - $5 a person - from noon to 4 p.m. at Big Sky Waterslide. Children must be accompanied by at least one adult family member.

Waterslide tickets must be purchased in advance. Buy them at Montana Coffee Traders in Columbia Falls and at the water slide.

Families also are invited to a free roller-skating session from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Evergreen Boys and Girls Club's roller rink in Kalispell.

Boys and Girls Clubs of America and KidsPeace launched National Kids Day during 2001 to help foster strong relationships between adults and children by educating them on the importance and value of spending meaningful time together.

The national event provides the opportunity for all adults to take breaks, celebrate and renew commitments to their children.

Nationwide, more than 500,000 children and their families are expected to participate in more than 1,300 events.
