Polson, Eureka win volleyball openers

POLSON -Emily Fors finished with eight kills and three blocks to help Polson hold off Corvallis 25-20, 25-21, 25-19 Friday night in Class A volleyball play.

It was the season opener for both squads.

Janell Lundeen totaled five kills

"It was a lot of fun, we did a good job playing as a team" said Polson coach Deanna McElwee.

"We didn't have one outstanding player. It was a great team effort."

McElwee said digs, which favored Polson 47-34, was a key stat in the match.

"We made some great plays, saves," she said.

"Our girls played very smart."

Gracie Satori led Polson with 12 digs.

Polson competes in the Whitefish Tip-Off Tournament today in Kalispell.

Eureka vs. Florence

EUREKA - Eureka cruised to an easy Class B season opening volleyball victory Friday, downing Florence 25-11, 25-9, 25-12 in nonconference play.

The Lions had 26 kills in the match with Amy Roberts collecting 16 and Sarah Flanary eight.

"We got rid of the nervousness and played pretty well as a team," said Eureka coach Rhonda Hammond.

"We have some young players, but the upperclassmen showed some leadership. That was neat."

Ali Zauner led the Lions with 30 assists and Flanary had three of the team's six blocks.

Eureka hosts a Tip-Off Tournament today, beginning at 9 a.m. Six teams are entered.
