The Flathead County Sheriff's Office took a report of a 10-year-old child in Evergreen trying to hop a box car to go to California, where he said his mother lives. He was returned to a guardian.

Deputies were busy with troublemakers on four feet. Two pit bulls chased employees around the Plum Creek parking lot. A deer was stuck in a chain link fence on Watne Way; it had to be shot. Cows converged on the Town Pump parking lot near Columbia Falls. A doe was hit by a vehicle on Whitefish Stage Road, leaving behind a young fawn to wander on the roadway. A horse got stuck in rose bushes on Swan Road.

A man in the Wal-Mart parking lot reportedly exposed himself to passers-by. Youths there also yelled profanities. A man gripping a large bottle was moved to dance in the street near Evergreen Alliance Church.

The thief who took a satellite receiver on East Lakeshore Drive didn't even leave the mount for it behind. Also stolen was a leather backpack, containing a spotting scope.

A blond man in his 30s, wearing a white T-shirt and jeans, was seen staggering down Kirby Lane in Ferndale. Later, a blond man wearing a white T-shirt and jeans was seen staggering down the middle of U.S. 2 near Evergreen School. He was gone when a deputy arrived.

A man shooting a gun from a vehicle on Twin Bridges Road drove away with his headlights off Friday night.

A resident on Gilbert Lake Drive caught two youths trying to break into his car at 3 a.m. Tuesday. They are suspected of stealing mail from mailboxes. One boy was taken to the juvenile detention center.

A vehicle stolen from Kari Dodge was found in Deer Lodge.

Nothing was missing, but a screen was jimmied at Somers School and a chair was found under a window in the restroom.

A chain saw and a rifle were stolen from a vehicle at Stoner's Inn.

A neighbor problem was reported at Rhodes Draw.

A 14-year-old boy lost riding privileges at Hilltop county park near Columbia Falls after he caused damage on a dirt bike.
