David Milton Monroe

David Milton Monroe was born in Nelsonville, N.Y., on Nov. 13, 1919, to David Y. and Alice H. Monroe. He passed away in Whitefish on Aug. 4, 2005.

He attended elementary school in Nelsonville and high school in Cold Spring, N.Y.

As a young man, he chose to go west. In 1943, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served throughout the Pacific area and China. He received the Purple Heart and an honorable discharge in 1945.

He married Bertha R. Casper on Sept. 15, 1947, and they have been constant companions ever since. His work required extensive travel throughout the United States, and Bertha accompanied him. Dave and Bertha retired Nov. 1, 1979, and have resided in Whitefish since.

Dave was survived by his wife of 57 years, Bertha, who passed away Oct. 15.

He is now survived by grandchildren, Calvin Scott and his wife, Laurale, of Marion, Darrell Jensen and his wife, Mei Mei, of San Jose, Calif., Cathy Huff and her husband, Rick, of Naches, Wash., and Christine Miskin of Auburn, Wash.; great-grandchildren, Cade Scott and his wife, Kristine, of Spanaway, Wash., Cord L. David Scott and his wife, Marlayna, of Kalispell, Cara Scott of Auburn, Daniel and Shaunli Jensen of San Jose, and Michael and Andrew Huff of Naches; great-great grandchildren, Kiana, Jeremy and Taylor Scott of Spanaway, and Bryan Caffrey Scott of Kalispell; and many loved nieces and nephews.

Dave had requested to be cremated with no services given, as he preferred family and friends to remember him as he was while alive.

Cremation has taken place.
