Chuck Curry, longtime undersheriff with the Flathead County Sheriff's Office, has announced his plan to retire on Feb. 18.

Sheriff Jim Dupont said Tuesday that Mike Meehan will step in as undersheriff. Meehan is commander of the patrol division.

Curry, 45, has worked for the sheriff's office since 1980 in the patrol, jail and civil divisions. He has been Dupont's undersheriff for 14 years.

"I couldn't wish for a better undersheriff," Dupont said.

Curry was commander of the SWAT team and the dive team and served as deputy coroner. He was instrumental in forming the current 911 system and the driving force in arranging and designing the current in-car computer system and internal computer records system.

Dupont said Curry will continue to work on the dive team as a search-and-rescue member and plans to continue his service as a flight paramedic with ALERT helicopter for Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
